Plenty to do at Francis Park on the Fourth

2024 Francis Park Festival car show.

A tradition that began with the nation’s Bicentennial will continue this year at Francis Park.

The celebration was first held in the mid-1970s, when the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence was approaching.

Over the years, the Fourth of July event has featured an ethnic food fair, a car show, a display of antique steam engines, a flea market, a pie-baking contest and musical entertainment.

This year, the Street Cruisers Car Club and Gustafson Ford will sponsor one of the area’s largest car, truck and motorcycle shows at the park from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Fourth. Registration of show entrants runs from 8:30-11 a.m. and voting will be from 11 a.m. to noon.

Vehicles from as long ago as the 1920s and 1930s are usually on display at the show. There will be door prizes, a 50-50 drawing and a raffle along with the show.

Trophies will be awarded for best show car, show truck, show motorcycle, original tractor, restored tractor and the Platinum Sponsor Choice.

Music and entertainment for the event will be provided by 3D Sound. Proceeds from the show will be donated to Honor Flight and Hog Capital Wildlife Rescue.

Another regular feature of the Fourth at Francis is the parade of antique tractors from Kewanee to the park, which starts at 8 a.m. The tractors are then parked for visitors to inspect them closely.

More information on the tractor parade and display is available from Brett Bennett at 309-525-4055, or Mark Rose at 309-854-1539.

A craft show and flea market will also be part of the fun at the park on the Fourth.
