The long-vacant Medical Arts Building at 716 Elliott St. may be donated by OSF HealthCare to Freedom House, a local non-profit dedicated to providing support and resources to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Diana Whitney, president of the Freedom House board of directors, said the transfer of ownership is being discussed but hasn’t been finalized.

“We are currently in discussions with OSF and are hopeful that things can eventually happen,” Whitney said. “We are grateful to OSF for this opportunity and will know more about this decision and all the moving parts involved in the coming weeks.”

Meanwhile, OSF is offering the public a chance to claim furniture and other contents of the building that won’t be needed if the transfer is made.

OSF Saint Luke Medical Center will host a giveaway event at the building from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6. The event will be open to the public, and all items in the building will be available for free.

“A wide variety of items are available including furniture, medical and office equipment, folding tables and chairs, artwork, holiday items and much more,” according to a news release from OSF. The release added that the items will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Those attending are encouraged to arrive at the start of the event to explore the available items, the release said.

Photos of the items can be seen on OSF Saint Luke’s Facebook page.
