Obituary For Walter "Walt" J. VerVynck

Walter “Walt” J. VerVynck, 72, of Kewanee, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024. Per his wishes he passed at home surrounded by his family. Walt was born November 4, 1951, in Kewanee, the son of Walter J., Sr. and Frances (Mahnesmith) VerVynck. Walt married Carol Blodgett, they later divorced. He then married Paula Titus, they later divorced. He then married Dawn DeVenney; she preceded him in death.

Walt is survived by one son, Joseph VerVynck, Kewanee; two daughters, Misty (Jason) Patterson, Crestview, FL and Darcy McCommons, Kewanee; one step son, Larry (Kelly) Morris, Kewanee; eleven grandchildren, Alyssa, Dallas, Austin, Alan, Brendan, Connor, Isabelle, Tess, Liviann, Aidan, Teygan; twelve great-grandchildren; siblings, John (Priscilla) VerVynck, Canton, Jerry VerVynck, Kewanee, Jimmy John Larson, Hazel (Larry) Williams, Sheffield, Bonnie Callicutt, Kewanee, Effie Nearing, PA; a sister-in-law, Missy VerVynck; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; three wives, Carol Blodgett, Dawn DeVenney, Paula VerVynck; his special friend, Mary Engels; two sons, Scott and Tommy VerVynck; brothers, Gene Kalis, Michael VerVynck, Stanley VerVynck; Donald VerVynck, and sisters, Janet Nance, Helen Turner, DeDe Yelm, Donna VerVynck.

Walt owned and operated Walt VerVynck Roofing for 30+ years. He worked for Oldeen Roofing for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Flemish American Club and the VFW. Walt enjoyed playing golf, pool, and picks. He was a NASCAR fan; he had the privilege of visiting almost all of the NASCAR tracks in the United States. Walt also enjoyed fishing when the kids were young. Walt enjoyed camping and hanging out with family at Allendale. Walt had a giving heart; he was always the first to give to anyone in need in the community.

Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the funeral home. Pastor Andrew Christman will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for memorial to be established.
