Obituary For Vallerie J. Whetstone

Vallerie J. Whetstone, 91, of Kewanee, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at her daughter’s home. She was born on September 27, 1934, in Neponset, the daughter of Nannie Aleatha (Failon) Foley. She graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1952. She married Raymond L. Whetstone on October 5, 1952, at the First Baptist Church in Kewanee, he preceded her in death on July 26, 2011.

Vallerie is survived by five children, Katherine (Mike) Hallock of Mexico, MO, Roseanne Hansen of Kewanee, Steven (Pamela) Whetstone of El Reno, OK, Elizabeth Power of Breckridge, TX, and Christine (Rick) Moon of Kewanee; twelve grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Patricia Cordrey, Harold Foley, John Foley, and Janet Piester; and son-in-law, William Hansen.

Vallerie worked as a manager for Spets Brothers in Kewanee until her retirement. She also worked for R.W. Liquidators and Montgomery Wards Catalog Outlet. Vallerie was a homemaker, taking care of her five children and was a caretaker for her mother, father-in-law, and many other family members and neighbors who needed help. Her home was the gathering spot for all their friends where they drank coffee and gossiped. Vallerie was a wonderful baker and was known for her pies and cookies. She loved sewing, making wedding dresses for her four daughters’ weddings, the performing costumes and traveling uniforms for the Kewanee High School Pom Pom squad, and sewing many different dresses for everyone. She enjoyed spending her time crocheting and quilting and belonged to the First Baptist Quilting Circle. She was an avid reader and especially liked to read John Grisham novels. She was very active in Girl Scouts as an adult and was a troop leader and day camp director. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother. Vallerie was also involved in the PTA and was a room mother for all five of her children. She was also an election judge for many years.

Vallerie lived a life of service for everybody, especially for her church, she was a member of the First Baptist Church since childhood and a member of the WAWTABT class. She served as a trustee for many years and taught Sunday school for elementary, junior high, and adult classes. She helped for many years with the Church Cookie Walk.

Vallerie’s visitation will take place from 10:00 – 11:00 am, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Kewanee. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at First Baptist Church. Pastor Randy Hroziencik and Reverand Dr. Michelle Whitlock will officiate.
