Obituary For Ronald "Ron" L. Berry, Sr.

Ronald “Ron” L. Berry, Sr., 79, of Kewanee, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024, at his home. Ron was born October 19, 1944, in Kewanee, the son of Charley C. and Hazel B. (Rollins) Berry. Ron married Joanne K. Horner, on May 8, 1970, in Kewanee; she survives.

Ron is also survived by one son, R. Lee Berry, Jr., Kewanee; daughter, Amanda (Philip) Freeman, Summerville, South Carolina; and four grandchildren, Josie L. Berry, Nathan C. Berry, Robin Freeman and Shannon M. Freeman. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerry Berry; and a sister, Arrolin Berry Smith.

Ron served in the United States Marine Corps. Ron worked as a welder at Hyster, and later became a welding engineer at Komatsu; retiring in 2013. Ron enjoyed golfing with his friends; he was a member of the Hole in One Club. He was the captain in a pool league. Ron was a Chicago Bears fan. Ron also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s games and visiting his daughter’s place in South Carolina.

Graveside services will be at 9:00 am, Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in Floral Hill Cemetery, Neponset. Pastor Andrew Christman will officiate. Please leave an online condolence for Ron’s family at www.golnickschuenemanfh.com.

    I am very sorry for your loss. Hated it when Ron had to quit golf several years ago. I very much enjoyed playing with him. He often talked about you two kids and it was clear how proud he was of you both. Wish you all the best for the future. Larry Lock out in Parker, Colorado.
