Obituary For Robert "Bob" Miller
Wyoming — Robert “Bob” Miller, 81, of Wyoming, Ill., passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, surrounded by the home and community he loved.
Bob was born March 20, 1945, in Peoria, Ill., the son of Evalyn (Breese) and Donald Miller. He graduated from Wyoming Community High School with the Class of 1963, and Wyoming remained his home throughout his life.
On Aug. 8, 1965, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Janet “Cookie” Moore, at the Congregational Church in Wyoming. They shared more than 61 years of marriage, building a life together in the community they called home. Cookie survives.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is also survived by his two sons, Rodney Robert Miller of Wyoming and Jeffrey (Tonya) Miller of Wyoming; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Sara and Bayley Miller, all of Wyoming; sister-in-law Sharon (Don) Foffel of Wyoming; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Sam Williams; his brother, Dana Miller and his daughter-in-law, Cynthia “Rain” Miller.
Bob worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Mossville, Ill., for 32 years before retiring. He was a dedicated member of the Fort Defiance Rifle and Pistol Club, serving as its treasurer for 40 years. He also served as treasurer for the Illinois State Rifle Junior Shooting Team. His commitment to these organizations reflected the time and effort he was always willing to give to something he believed in.
Bob was also a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 479 in Wyoming.
Outside of work and his many community activities, Bob simply enjoyed life. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling. He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed pitching horseshoes, fishing, hunting and shooting. He appreciated being outdoors, staying active and spending time doing the things he loved.
Those who knew Bob will remember him not only for the many years he devoted to his family, his work, and his community, but also for the friendships he formed and the lasting impression he made on the people around him. He was a lifelong Wyoming resident who took pride in his family and his community, and he will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, at Wyoming Cemetery in Wyoming, Ill. Pastor Gary Black will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Wyoming Volunteer Fire Department.
