Obituary For Richard L. "Rick" Kalvin

Richard L. “Rick” Kalvin, 71, of Chicago, formerly of Kewanee, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at his home.

He was born on February 7, 1955, in Kewanee, the son of Peter and Louise (Scott) Kalvin. Survivors include his brother, John (Nancy) Kalvin of Urbana, IL, two sisters, Linda Kalvin of Kewanee and Pat (Brian) Bjorklund of Minneapolis, MN, five nieces and nephews; John (Jolea) Kalvin, Rebecca (Steve) Judge, Kristopher (April) Bjorklund, Katie Bjorklund and Stephanie (Dan) Evans and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rick graduated from Kewanee High School in 1973 and from Knox College in Galesburg. He worked as an investment specialist for Mass Mutual for 25 years. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Kewanee. He had also attended Culinary School and thoroughly enjoyed cooking and was considered a “home chef.” Rick was a fan of all sports and especially enjoyed following the Chicago Bears and Cubs.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14 at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert Hensley officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Cremation will be accorded following the services, and private inurnment will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Episcopal Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is assisting the family with arrangements.

    My deepest sympathies at your family's loss. May God comfort you. I lived across the street from you on West Street. Rick and I were in the same KHS class and rode the bus together.
