Obituary For Patricia "Pat" J. Carlson

Patricia “Pat” J. Carlson, 95, of Kewanee, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Kewanee Care Home. Pat was born December 13, 1928, in Galesburg, the daughter of Clarence and Jennie (Varner) Swanson. Pat graduated from Cambridge High School with the class of 1946. She attended Western Illinois University with a degree in teaching; graduating in 1950. Pat married Raymond “Ray” O. Carlson, on June 26, 1954, in Kewanee; he preceded her in death on July 26, 2018.

Pat is survived by one daughter, Julie Johnson; son-in-law, Marty Padilla, both of Kewanee; four grandchildren, Mandy Padilla, Zach (Autumn) Padilla, Nikki (Jimmy Scott) Johnson, and Nathan (Megan) Johnson; and five great-grandchildren, Michael Shaw, Skylar Sauer, Mia Padilla, Kaden Cole, and Jordan Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Jamie Padilla in 2017; brother, Raymond V. Swanson; two nieces, Beth Swanson Mead and Anita Carlson; brother-in-law and his wife, Leonard and Dolly Carlson; and a nephew, Bert Carlson.

Pat taught Kindergarten and First Grade for four years in Moline and 29 years in Kewanee. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the NEA, and CLIO Club for numerous years. Family and friends were very important to Pat, she enjoyed spending time with them. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the church. Pastor Linnea Gustafson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church and Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.     So sorry for your loss. Mrs Carlson was the Kindergarten teacher of many at Lyle School! She made learning fun. She was always such a warm and lovely lady. Rest in peace.

    Sorry to see Pat's passing. She was such a genuinely nice lady. We always enjoyed seeing her and talking to her. I enjoyed seeing her when I did programs at Courtyard. From a fellow teacher.
