Lois A. Stabler, 94, of Kewanee, died Thursday, May 9, 2024, at her home. Lois was born April 3, 1930, in Astoria, IL, the daughter of George P. and Helen (Stephens) Sanders. Lois attended Kewanee Schools, graduating with the class of 1948.

Lois A. Sanders married Joe Stabler on May 21, 1950, at the First United Methodist Church, Kewanee; they were married 74 years.

They are survived by three daughters, Karen (Larry) Shimmin, Coal Valley, Krista (Wayne Mandel) Stabler, St. Louis, MO, Karyl (Mark) Hill, Bloomington, IL; grandchildren, Erica (Todd) Tholl, Kraig (Amanda) Hill, Kara (Jeffrey Stenzie) Hill and Kody Hill; great-grandson, Chase Tholl, Camden Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nancy Suhanek; and a brother, James Sanders.

Lois was employed by Boss Glove office from 1948 until 1951. Lois was a Navy wife from 1951 until 1955, she resided in San Diego, CA during that time. She was employed with Marsten Company in the billing department. After Joe was discharged from the Navy they resided in Neponset from 1956 until 1970, where she was active in the Neponset Schools and the Methodist Church. In 1970 they moved to Kewanee.

While Lois and Joe resided in Kewanee, she was a regent of the Kewanee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; she was also Chaplain of Division 1. She was also a long-time board member of the Salvation Army. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, member of Kewanee Woman’s Club, Ruth Circle of the Methodist Church, past president of the Kewanee Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Hospital Cornerstone Club, and a volunteer at the information desk and as a transporter at OSF St. Luke’s Medical Center. Lois was a past officer of Midland Ladies Golf League and a proud member of golf “Hole in One” club, which she became a member of at the age of 74. She was also a Midland Country Club ladies golf champion. She also held several offices in the Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. Lois was also president and board member of Clio Reading Club.

One of her greatest accomplishments, according to herself and her family was to become a “lung cancer survivor” after her bout with cancer at the age of 80.

A Celebration of Life for Lois and Joe will be from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Midland Golf Club, Kewanee. Private burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, Kewanee, the Kewanee Veterans Council, Relay for Life of Henry and Stark County, OSF St. Luke’s Medical Center, or the Henry County Humane Society, Kewanee.
