KEWANEE – John Thomas Redmond, 85, of Kewanee, died at 7:15 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Allure of Knox County in Galesburg.

He was born February 22, 1939, in Kewanee, the son of William E. and Blanche (Joles) Redmond. He married Lona Greer in 1960 in Beeville, TX and they later divorced. He married Sharon Burwell in 1976 in Toulon and they divorced in 2011. Survivors include his four daughters; Delilah (John) Osborn, Sarah (Lynn) Wooley, Kathleen (David) Turner and Evelyn (Eric) Heater, eleven grandchildren; Shayna Arndt, Holly Arndt, Austin (Megan) Evitts, Clayton (Nikki) Wooley, Amanda (Delton) Hayes, Thomas Redmond (Mariella) Lofton, Zachary Richardson, Justin (Courtney) Marshall, Eric Jacob Heater, Evan Joshua Heater and Alyssa Heater, nine great grandchildren; Camryn, Connor and Carson Evitts, Maggy Wooley, Charlie Hayes, Logan and Alexandra Lofton and Emmalyn and Grady Marshall, two nephews, William Dobbels and Patrick Dobbels, a niece, Cody Kempin and several great nieces and nephews including Melissa Dobbels. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Redmond and a sister, Mary Ellen “Sally” Dobbels Olson.

John graduated from Kewanee High School in 1957 and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1957-62 achieving the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. He had worked in the timber business and sold fireworks and explosives for 50 years. He also ran a fruit market for 18 years and worked at International Harvester for 13 years. He was a member of Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee, and he enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 23 at Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Chris Haake. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, April 22 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. The burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to Saint John Paul II Parish.
