Joann L. Barnes, 86, of Kewanee, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Joann was born May 22, 1937, in Kewanee, the daughter of Raymond and Nellie (Streicker) VanWassenhove. Joann married Donald “Sonny” Barnes on July 30, 1955, at the First Baptist Church, Kewanee; he preceded her in death on June 14, 2017.

Joann is survived by two sons, Randy (Kim) Barnes, Kewanee, Rick Barnes, Kewanee; daughter, Rhonda Roberts, East Moline; four grandchildren, Niki (Scott), Daniel (Ariana), Jolene (Dustin), Roxanne; six great grandchildren, Steven, Coleton, Braxton, Aubriella, Tinley and Isla; sister, Shirley Frantzen; and a brother, Ron VanWassenhove. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Rodney; and two sisters, Louise Orr and Mary Lou Shipley.

Joann worked for Novak's for 20+ years. She enjoyed camping and fishing. Joann especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Graveside services will be for both Joann and Sonny at 10:30 am, Thursday, August 24, 2023, at South Pleasant View Cemetery. Pastor Andrew Christman will officiate. A Celebration of Life will follow the graveside Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the American Legion. Memorials may be made to the State Road Church.
