Obituary For Jean L. MacMillan

Jean L. MacMillan, 88, of Kewanee, formerly of Santa Barbara CA, died May 28, 2025. Jean was born May 29, 1936, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Jerome and Lillian (Hrdina) Rada. Jean married James V. MacMillan, Jr. on June 15, 1969, in Santa Barbara, CA; he preceded her in death on April 8, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Jean is survived by three children, Deirdre (Dennis) Scott, Kewanee, Jim (Charlotte) MacMillan, Santa Barbara, CA, Crystie MacMillan, Santa Barbara, CA; six grandchildren, Alex (Gladys) Villalobos, Tanya (Rich) Webber, Shawna (Brian) Gathman, Deena (Clint) Raes, Jeremy Kranz, and Kevin Kranz; twelve great grandchildren, Evan (Courtney), Shailar (Ian), Isabell, Kennedy, Sophie, Cash, Corbin, Taylen, Cambria, Reid, Gavin, and David; one great-great granddaughter, Myla; and one sister, Joyce (Dennis) Emery, Winchester, CA.

Jean worked as a teacher in multiple places. Jean enjoyed the outdoors, visiting National Parks, watching wildlife, especially birds. She had numerous dogs and liked animals more than most people. She liked doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was an avid reader her entire life. Jean was a dedicated quilter and a long-time member of the Coastal Quilters Guild of Santa Barbara and Goleta.

Per Jean’s wishes there will be no services in Illinois, she will be buried in the Santa Barbara Cemetery in California at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wildlife Prairie Park, Hanna City, Illinois to feed the wolves or the Hog Capitol Wildlife Rescue and Rehab, Kewanee.     Dear Deirdre and family, Our moms enjoyed living next to each other and sharing memories. Your mom was such a joy to be around and always had a smile on her face. She was very proud of you and your family. You were always there for her and brought her much joy and comfort. Jean will be missed by many. Sincerely, Jill and Irv Kelman

    I'm sorry for your loss. My mother, Pat Carlson, lived by her at Courtyard Village. Jean was such a nice lady. Your in my thoughts and prayers.🙏🏼
