Obituary For James M. "Jim" Weston

KEWANEE - James M. “Jim” Weston, 93, of rural Kewanee, died peacefully at 11:33 a.m., Friday, March 27, 2026, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 1 Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Narcis Katambe. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 31 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with recitation of the rosary at 3:30 p.m. The burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Senior Citizen Center or the Kewanee Volunteer Fire Department.

He was born on December 15, 1932, in Kewanee, the son of Mervin James and Jane Berneice (Girven) Weston. He married Mary Lou Teece on September 3, 1956, in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on December 29, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, Patrick, son-in-law, Jim Findley, a grandson-in-law, Austin Brown, a sister, Hester Thurek and brother Harry Weston. He is survived by his children, Thomas (Connie) Weston, Michael (Michele) Weston, Betty (Jeffrey) Andris, Mary Findley (and special friend Tony Carlton), Connie (Douglas ) Wager and Robert (Kari) Weston, a daughter-in-law, Brenda Weston, his grandchildren, Erin Nicholson, Leslie (Mark) Mooney, Jeffery Weston, Eric (Hilary) Weston, Marcy (Jeremiah) Weston, Chelsea Vyncke, Stephanie (Robbie) McDorman, Kari (Tate) Sturtevant, Jennifer (Randy) Hedrick, Dustin (Baylea) Weston, Alexandria (Spencer) Weston, Nathan (Jennifer) Wager, Nicholas (Morgan) Wager, Nicole (Bradley) Moehring, Cody (Brook) Demas and Payton (James) Weston, twenty-six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Weston and several nieces and nephews.

Jim attended Visitation Catholic School and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1950. He served in the Navy from 1950 to 1956, achieving the rank of SO 2. He achieved the duty awards of Navy Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. In early years, he did carpentry work, but mostly he had farmed on the family farm until he retired. He was a member of Saint John Paul II Parish and had been an usher for many years. He had been a member of the Kewanee Community Fire Department for 33 years, from 1964 to 1997, serving as president during many of those years and retiring with the rank of Captain. He was also a member of the Inter Community Firefighters Association and on the Board of Directors for the Kewanee Elevator, FS and the Henry County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau, the KHS FFA Alumni and Advisory Board, the Henry County Pork Producers, the 4-H and FFA Foundations and the Knights of Columbus, where he was Knight of the Year in 2005. Jim had also been a volunteer for the Windmont Park Lighting crew and a volunteer for many years at the Kewanee Hog Days Pork Chop tent.
