Obituary For James I. "Jim" Stahl
Wyoming---James I. “Jim" Stahl, 91, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria. Jim was born on January 11, 1935, in Princeville, the son of Amos and Laura (Ehnle) Stahl. A simple man, Jim lived a life deeply committed to his passions of the family business, devotion to his loving family, and strong faith.
In his early years, Jim attended Wyoming Grade School and Wyoming High School, where he was active in school plays and played football. As one of four siblings, he spent a childhood rich with family, friendships, and enjoyed small town life. During those years, he met the love of his life, Evelyn Fulton. They were married on September 28, 1957, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Wyoming. She survives.
After high school, he attended Western Illinois University for two years, then returned to Wyoming to work with his father, Amos, at Stahl Lumber Company/Amos Stahl General Contractors/Stahl Ready-Mixed Concrete. Jim brought many talents to the business. He was an exceptional draftsman/designer, and a skilled carpenter as well. He spent many hours at his drawing board designing buildings. Throughout the years, he built a wide range of structures, including single family homes, funeral homes, and livestock buildings. Jim owned and operated Stahl Lumber Company for many years and the business is still in existence today. The excitement and passion he had for the business was still evident in July 2024, as he was still doing errands and small odds and ends for the company.
He was a member of the Lumber Dealers Association and a member of the Wyoming Lions Club. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors at State Bank of Speer for many years.
Above all, Jim was a devoted husband and father. He and Evie enjoyed annual winter vacations to the Florida sunshine. They frequently traveled out of town to attend their grandchildren's school events. He delighted in his growing family as his great-grandchildren were born. His Catholic faith was a pivotal part of his life, always giving thanks to God for the many blessings in his life.
Jim is also survived by one son, Terry (Deana) Stahl of Princeville; his children, Kenneth J. (Jenna), and Heath Michael (Jessica); daughter, Laurie (Michael) DeSchepper of Dixon, her children, Larissa Frantz and Kelsey (Andrew) Sarver; daughter, Jacqueline (Kenneth) Hofer of Washington, her children, Joshua (Brittany) Hofer, Jordyn (Michael) Ernst, Kendal Hofer (Kathrin Underwood), and Kody Hofer, eight great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Lucas, Addison; Kinsley, Alijah, Amelia, Emersyn, and Ruth; one sister, Joanne Holman of Lebanon; two brothers, Melvin (Corinne) Stahl of Galva, and George “Mike” (Patricia) Stahl of Wyoming; He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Delbert Holman.
