Obituary For Gerald "Jerry" Lippens

KEWANEE - Gerald “Jerry” Lippens, 94, of Kewanee, died at 10:29 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Arcadia Care at Kewanee.

A public visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, January 20 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Private graveside services will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.

He was born on May 1, 1930, in Kewanee, the son of Richard and Myrtle Lippens. He married Doris E. Snow on July 27, 1957, in Woburn, IL and she preceded him in death on June 17, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three babies. He is survived by a daughter, Kim (Kelly) Hannon of Maysville, GA.

Jerry graduated from Kewanee High School in 1948 and then Knox College in 1952. He had served in the Army Reserves. He owned and operated ABC Signs in Kewanee. He often wintered in Florida to continue his craft. He especially enjoyed his sign painting and later in life took up snow skiing. He also enjoyed flying radio-controlled airplanes and found ways to antagonize the model sailboats of the Hoggatta Regatta held at Windmont Park with his dive-bombing planes.

    A great sign painter ...and artist. His painting was awarded "senior picture" his graduation from KHS. A great friend of the Kewanee Historical Society. Stopped by his shop many times for a favor for the museum. Kim, really liked your mother and father. Wish you the best in the days ahead.

    I meet Jerry in 1981 when I joined the Kewanee krashers RC model club . He was the club's supplier of parts and the Instructor. He gave many many hours of his time teaching hundreds of people to fly R C plane's.He loved to give you a hard time when you crashed. Jerry will be missed Prayers to his Family And most special friend Pat. Gene Lang
