Obituary For Brock Tumbleson
Brock Tumbleson, 67, Kewanee, died May 3, 2024. Born August 18, 1956, in Kewanee, son of Bill L. and Marlene (Rouse) Tumbleson. He grew up on the family farm in Neponset. He graduated with the Class of 1974 at Western High School. He attended Black Hawk East and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Mortuary Science 1976. Brock started working with "Bud" Schueneman in 1974. Brock and Mark purchased the funeral home from "Bud" in 1997; he retired in 2017.
Brock married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Molly Madsen on August 28, 1976, in the historical Danish Lutheran Church in Sheffield. She survives along with their two sons and daughter. Nathaniel (Jodi) Tumbleson of Phoenix, AZ, Jacob Tumbleson, Kewanee, Maggie (Chad) Winter, Kewanee. Also surviving are seven grandchildren Lexi, Lucas, Myles, Grant, Elliana, Kyle, and Ally. One brother Brian (Cheri) Tumbleson of Mazon, two nieces Alaina (Christopher) Jackson, Ariane (Timothy) Misener, nephew Todd Morris, great nieces and a great nephew: Ashlin, Aubrie, Alise, Aurora, Annika, Jovie, Brilee, and Wade. Two uncles Raymond (Carol) Rouse of Bradford and Dick (Mary Jo) Rouse of Kewanee. Preceded in death by his parents Bill and Marlene Tumbleson and his in laws Gilbert and Betty Ann Madsen.
Brock was an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Worship Leader, and Choir Director at First Congregational Church - SBC in Kewanee. Brock’s intense love of music lead him to a 55-year commitment and career of church music ministry in the greater Kewanee area. A highlight of his musical life was singing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Brock was committed to a life of service to this community. He was twice past president of the Kewanee Kiwanis Club, past president of the Kewanee area United Way, past president of the Ambassadors Club, a member and past president of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors, and a Member of the Kewanee Masonic Lodge #159 A.F. A.M. and Moline Consistory along with many other boards and committees dedicated to furthering the advancement of Kewanee and surrounding areas. In 2004, Brock was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year. Brock and Glen Schwarm were co-founders of the “More on 34” weekend that spans from Galesburg to Yorkville. Brock was always proud to be a member of the Kewanee Klassics along with Jim Blucker and Dave Sherrard. Together, over the years, they raised thousands of dollars for local charities, particularly the Salvation Army.
Brock enjoyed studying the Civil War, the Old West, Kewanee history, and family genealogy. He and his wife, Molly, enjoyed antiques and were successful antique dealers for decades. His love for Christmas was boundless. Brock, his family, and friends celebrated the Christmas season year in and year out by decorating either the family home, Furniture Country store windows, and eventually Northeast Park.
Brock loved God, his family, and his close friends.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the First Congregational Church, Kewanee. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the church. Pastor Justin Rumley will officiate. Burial will be in Wethersfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Congregational Church - SBC in Kewanee, Salvation Army of Kewanee, Kiwanis Club of Kewanee, or Northeast Park Christmas Lighting.
