Alvin H. Bengtson 86 of Boca Raton, Fla. and formerly of Geneseo passed away on Oct. 11, 2026, in Boca Raton surrounded by his loving family.

Alvin was born in Geneseo, Ill. to Ernst and Ruth (Peterson) Bengston in 1949. He grew up on the family farm. Childhood rheumatic fever confined him to bed for months, so his parents provided him with books and electronic kits to help pass the time that it turned into a lifelong passion. Al graduated from Geneseo High School in 1958 and began his college career at Augustana College and then transferred to Penn State where he earned his electrical engineering degree. While at Penn State, Al met the love of his life Ginny (Uber) and they were married on Jan. 31, 1964, in Slippery Rock, Penn. She preceded Al in death in 2009. While on a work assignment for Westinghouse, Al earned his doctorate in engineering from Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind. His career took him to Western Electric in Holmdel, N.J. and later to Naperville, Ill. with Lucent Technologies from which he retired.

In 2001 Al and Ginny moved to Lighthouse Point, Fla. where he enjoyed the warm weather and another passion of his life...photography. Alvin was laid to rest on Oct. 17 next to his beloved Ginny in Pompano Beach, Fla.

Those left to cherish his memory are his brother Roger (Becky) Bengtson of Kewanee. His three children, Mike (Robin) of Georgia, Dr. Krisi Machemer (Lee) of Maryland and David (Nichole) of Tennessee, his grandchildren Lauren (Daniel), Emily and Josh Bengtson, Regan and Alex Machemer and Drew and Nick Bengtson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ginny and sister-in-law JoAnn.

He was a devout Christian and served the Lord his entire life and will be dearly missed. Memorials may be made in his name to the Samaritan's Purse.
