Alvin C. Thompson, 79, of West Lafayette, formerly of Kewanee, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 23, 2025, at the Indiana Veterans Home of West Lafayette. Born on September 4, 1946, in Kewanee to the late Charles and Dorothy (Doy) Thompson, Alvin was a 1964 graduate of Cambridge High School.

Alvin proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1968. He married Janice Fleming, the love of his life, on November 9, 1968, in Kewanee, and she survives him.

Throughout his career, Alvin worked with Schwans, Caterpillar, Rock Island Arsenal, and the Illinois State Police. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors, watching his grandchildren play sports, and coaching his son’s baseball teams.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice, and their sons, Matthew (Deanna) Thompson, Lance (Melissa) Thompson, and Bryan (Rebecca) Thompson. He also leaves behind grandchildren Ryan Thompson, Allison (Patrick) Tabor, Alexa (Seth) Collins, Kayla Thompson, Emily (John) James, Nolan Thompson, and Brett Thompson, as well as great-grandchildren Henry James and Maggie Collins.

Preceding him in death along with his parents is his sister, Shirley A. Thompson.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM (EST) on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Indiana Veterans Home Cemetery (3851 N. River Rd. West Lafayette, IN 47906), officiated by Chaplain David Hess.
