Man found unconscious in parking lot; police rule out foul play

Police say no foul play was involved in an incident where a man was found lying unconscious in a parking lot in the 400 block of Tenney Street. The Kewanee Police Department issued a news release on Wednesday.

According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday, Nov. 23 around 7:11 p.m. Two employees of a local business discovered a man lying in the parking lot adjacent to the building.

The man appeared to have sustained head trauma and was taken to St. Luke Medical Center in Kewanee. He was later transferred to St. Francis Hospital in Peoria for further medical treatment.

According to the news release, the KPD immediately launched an investigation and officers conducted interviews with witnesses and reviewed surveillance camera footage from nearby businesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.

On Nov. 27, police say, the man regained consciousness and was able to give a statement to investigators. From his statement, police determined that the man had suffered a medical emergency that had rendered him unconscious.

The news release stated that the KPD “appreciates the cooperation of local businesses and community members in assisting with the investigation.”
