A light turnout was reported in Henry County for Tuesday’s primary election.

The Henry County Clerk’s office today reported that 5,038 ballots were cast Tuesday. That’s 13.6% of the county’s 37,044 registered voters.

There were 2,956 Republican ballots cast and 2,076 Democratic ballots.

JB Pritzker finished first in a large field of candidates for Illinois governor in Tuesday’s primary election, and Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton will be the Democrats’ candidate for U.S. senator in November.

In Henry County, Pritzker received 39% of the votes from the Democrats.

He’ll be opposed by Darren Bailey, who ran against him four years ago. Bailey was the leading vote-getter in Henry County among the four Republican candidates, with 35% of the vote.

Raj Krishnamoorthi, who ran many television commercials in the runup to the election, was the leading vote-getter in the Senate race among Henry County Democrats. He garnered 21% of the ballots in the county, to 11% for Stratton.

In the race for Congressman in the 17th District, Republican Dillan S. Vancil was the winner. He also won in Henry County over Julie Bickelhaupt.

U.S. Congressman Eric Sorensen was unopposed in the primary.

Chad Winter of Kewanee was the leading vote-getter among the six candidates for four seats on the Henry County Board from District 2 (the southern part of the county).

Winter received 42% of the votes. He was followed by Marshall Jones with 37%, David Tomsic and Deborah Casteel with 34% each and Kevin Brown, 32%.
