The Kewanee Police Department’s addition of the FLOCK license plate reader system is already paying off. At approximately 11:42 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, a notification via the local plate reader system alerted the department to a potential stolen vehicle that was traveling within Kewanee city limits.
A 17-year-old male juvenile from Tiskilwa was operating the vehicle that was later located by police parked in the Walmart lot. Police were able to apprehend the driver and occupants of the vehicle and take them into custody.
The vehicle was reported stolen from Streator and the owners were promptly contacted and the vehicle was returned to them.
Among the vehicle occupants were three juveniles, two of whom were released without charges. The 17-year-old was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and later released into the custody of his mother, along with a Henry County Juvenile Referral form.
