The Kewanee High School FFA held an open house for the newly constructed Ag Science Center on Saturday, August 10. Tours of the facility as well as hot dogs were served to celebrate the occasion.
Students of the KHS FFA provided tours of the new Ag Science Center and all it provides. The center’s construction began in the summer of 2022 at a cost of around $3 million. Now open, the center allows students to dig into the many aspects of agricultural science.

Mrs. Callahan, Ms. Ruemker, and Mr. Meyer are the three teachers who will use the center to instruct students on a wide variety of subjects such as welding, Ag mechanics, Ag construction, floral design, biological applications, Ag business, and much more.
Kewanee Supt. Dr. Christopher Sullens said that back in 1957 when KHS originally moved to its current location, Ag education was a central focus of importance. Dr. Sullens felt that students interested in agricultural studies deserved to have a facility dedicated for just that. There are now between 140 to 160 FFA members at KHS.
“We have gone full circle in 67 years when it comes to vocational education at Kewanee High School. Who knows where Ag will be at KHS in another 67 years?” Dr. Sullens said.
