Gary Bradley, Kewanee’s city manager for the past 10 years, has been “relieved of his duties, effective immediately,” according to a news release issued Monday night by Mayor Gary Moore.
The release said the council had agreed to relieve Bradley of his duties “after thoughtful discussion and careful consideration.
“I, in partnership with the City Council, believe that a change in leadership is necessary as we move forward with our strategic goals and community priorities,” the news release said. “We are grateful for Gary’s service and the contributions he made during his tenure, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Moore’s news release said, “In the coming days we will appoint an interim city manager to ensure that the city operations continue smoothly and without interruption. The city will also begin the process of hiring our new city manager, we ask for your patience during this process.”
The release said Kewanee’s city government “remains committed to transparency, accountability and collaboration. We remain focused on providing high-quality services supporting local development and ensuring that our community thrives.”
Asked to elaborate on the situation after Monday’s City Council meeting, Moore did not offer any specific reasons for dismissing Bradley. But he said, “The city has lost a city manager, and I have lost a very good friend.”
The Kewanee Voice was unable to reach Bradley for comment Monday night.
