
The Kewanee Police Department identified the victim of a Sunday evening shooting as Jimmy Hollins II, 31, of Kewanee.
Hollins was lying in the roadway in the 100 block of Houle Avenue Sunday night, when police arrived on the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. According to a news release, police officers found a male with a gunshot wound to the neck. Immediate life-saving measures were taken but paramedics from the Kewanee Fire Department, despite their efforts, were unable to save him and Hollins was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Following the incident, officers canvassed the area for a suspect and gathered statements from witnesses. Detectives from the KPD launched a homicide investigation and requested additional assistance from the Henry Mercer County Investigative Task Force, the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators and the Henry County OEM.
The investigation remains ongoing and an autopsy is scheduled for March 26. Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to contact the KPD at (309) 853-1911.
