Thanks to former Galvan, Jane Doss, Galva’s Wiley Park has brand-new, covered seating for wheelchair bound fans of the Levitt AMP Sunday concerts. The new covered area is north of the band shelter, with a designated easy access drop-off from an entrance on NW 4th Street.

City Administrator David Dyer explained that the new area allows those in wheelchairs to enter the park without being jarred by uneven ground.

“This makes it much easier for those in wheelchairs, and for those who push them into the park,” he said.

A wide wooden canopy covers the shelter, keeping the attendees safe from rain and direct sunlight.

“There is room for quite a few wheelchairs, and the view of the stage is very good from there,” said Dyer. “We are hoping more wheelchair users will take advantage of this new spot.”

The project began last year, following the Sunday concerts and was finished in time for the 2025 series.

Doss’s gift of $30,000 covered the costs, with help from Bell Trucking and City workers, Shane Hickman, Jeremy Wood and Richard Plummer, who built the overhead canopy. Chris Courtright Construction from Oneida did the concrete work, which has a pleasing pattern on the walkway that helps prevent slippage. The posts, beams, wrap and roof were purchased from JMAC, making it a community project.

“Jane has been incredibly generous to Galva,” said Dyer. “Several years ago, she donated funds to build the large band shelter in the Park, followed by monies for the wheelchair area.”
Dyer added that she also helped the city replace the park’s basketball backboards and netting. “She has been incredibly generous, and we appreciate all she has done to enhance Wiley Park,” he said. “Her gifts have left an indelible mark on the community.”

Dyer encouraged residents to check out the new area and make certain to attend the last remaining Sunday concert on Sunday.

“You won’t be disappointed,” said Dyer.
