Housley charged with arson in early morning structure fire

A 51-year-old man has been arrested for arson after the Kewanee police and fire departments were called to a structure fire at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, in the 300 block of North East Street.

Allatonie Housley was later identified as the suspect and arrested at approximately 6:30 a.m. by the Kewanee Police Department, according to a news release by Chief Stephen Kijanowski.

The Kewanee Fire Department quickly extinguished the blaze, and an investigation was immediately launched by the fire and police departments, as well at the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office. The fire was determined to be an act of arson.

Housley was transported to the Kewanee Police Department for booking and processing before being transferred to the Henry County Jail on preliminary charges of arson, criminal damage to property and criminal trespass to real property.

Arson is a Class 2 felony and carries a potential sentence of three to seven years in prison. Housley is presumed innocent, according to the news release.
