Kewanee, Ill. — In a show of support for local workforce development and hands-on learning, Gustafson Ford donated professional-grade automotive tools to the Kewanee High School automotive program.

The tool set will be used by students enrolled in KHS’s newly launched mechanics course, taught by Dave Armstrong.

According to a news release issued by the Kewanee School District, Armstrong brings a wealth of real-world experience to the classroom, having served as an automotive technician at Gustafson Ford and as a U.S. Navy plane captain.

Armstrong’s career includes hands-on expertise in vehicle diagnostics and repairs. Since 2012, he has also owned and operated his own automotive business, which gives him a deeper understanding of the value of community engagement and support, the release said. His background equips students with industry-relevant skills while instilling discipline, problem-solving, and professionalism.

Representatives from Gustafson Ford, KHS and the Kewanee Schools Foundation gathered for the donation presentation outside the automotive classroom at Kewanee High School, alongside the Ford Pro Mobile Service van.

Owner Kurt Gustafson presented the donation to KHS and noted that this act continues his father’s legacy of giving young people opportunities to succeed. Kurt’s daughter, Courtlin, and his wife, Carrie, were also present for the donation and saw first-hand the impact of their family’s legacy on the next generation of technicians, the release said.
