Galva police report for Oct. 20-26

Oct. 20:

Police met with a resident at the Galva Police Department to discuss a civil stalking/no contact order.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint at the intersection of James B. Young Road and NW 3rd Avenue. The owner was able to pick up the dog and take it back home.

Richard Ortiz, 30, Galva, was arrested for aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude the police, felony driving while license revoked, obstructing a police officer, and two counts of disobeying a stop sign following an attempt to stop a vehicle in the 300 block of SE 2nd Street. The suspect vehicle fled police and disobeyed several stop signs before coming to a stop in the 400 block of SW 1st Avenue. He was taken to Henry County Jail.

Oct. 21:

Police responded to a criminal damage to property complaint after a baseball was reportedly thrown through a window at a residence in the 300 block of NE 1st Avenue.

Oct. 22:

Police responded to a report of a reckless driver on Route 34 near Black Hawk College. The suspect vehicle did not come to Galva.

Police responded to an abandoned vehicle complaint in the 300 block of Commercial Street. The vehicle was tagged with a seven-day tow-away warning sticker.

Police responded to a neglected animal complaint in the 800 block of NE 3rd Street. The owner was contacted and advised that the animals were being taken care of and would be leaving in the next couple of days.

Travis Swanson, 45, Cambridge, was issued a citation for having expired registration in the 300 block of Main Street.

Oct. 23:

Police responded to a stalking/suspicious vehicle complaint in the 500 block of NE 3rd Street.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 200 block of SW 3rd Street. The officer was unable to locate the animal.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up in the 300 block of NE 1st Street. It was determined to be a small child playing with a phone.

Oct. 24:

Colby Murphy, 30, Galesburg, was arrested for driving while his license was suspended, operating an uninsured vehicle and having expired registration following a traffic stop in the 600 block of South Center Avenue. He was released with a required court date.

Police, along with the fire department, were dispatched to Route 34 several miles east of Galva for a vehicle fire.

Police met with a subject at the Galva Police Department to retrieve a wallet that was found and turned in. It was returned to its owner.

Mason Senders, 26, Bradford, was arrested for driving while license revoked, operating a vehicle when registration was suspended for mandatory insurance, having expired registration and operating an uninsured vehicle following a traffic stop in the 300 block of South Center Avenue. He was released with a required court date.

Police responded to a theft complaint in the 100 block of SE 2nd Avenue.

Police checked on a suspicious person walking in the 1000 block of West Division Street. It was determined to be a motorist assist after the subject ran out of fuel.

Police assisted Henry County with serving a civil paper in the 400 block of SW 4th Avenue.

Police responded to a crossing arm malfunction at the SW 6th Avenue railroad tracks. BNSF was contacted for repairs.

Oct. 25:

Police assisted a motorist whose vehicle had broken down on Route 34 about 2 miles west of town.

Police responded to a parking complaint/abandoned vehicle in the 00 block of SW 2nd Street.

Police assisted a subject who locked their keys inside their vehicle in the 300 block of Commercial Street. A Henry County officer was able to unlock it.

Police responded to a report of a reckless driver coming towards Galva at the north edge of town. The officer located the vehicle but did not observe any violations.

Russell Robert, 32, Kewanee, was issued a citation for speeding in the 800 block of North Center Avenue.

Oct. 26:

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 400 block of NW 4th Street. The officer could not locate the animal.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 open line in the 200 block of NE 2nd Street. It was determined to be a child playing with a phone.

Police responded to a juvenile complaint involving trespassing in the 400 block of NW 3rd Avenue.

Police investigated a suspicious person complaint at the north edge of town on County Highway 5.

Police were flagged down while patrolling by a subject who had locked her keys inside her vehicle in the 00 block of SW 4th Street.

Daniel Berchtold, 48, Wyoming, was issued a citation for speeding in the 1100 block of SE 2nd Street.
