Galva police report for May 6-12

May 6:

Police responded to a two-vehicle damage-only accident in the 1000 block of North Center Avenue. A crash report was completed.

Police responded to a wild animal complaint involving an opossum wandering around in the yard in the 300 block of SW 7th Street. The officer checked the area and was not able to locate the animal.

Police responded to a complaint involving loose trash blowing into neighbors’ yards in the 300 block of SW 4th Street. The resident agreed to address the situation.

Police responded to a juvenile complaint involving older kids throwing water balloons at younger kids in Wiley Park. A parent was contacted and the offenders removed.

May 7:

Police assisted a citizen who had locked himself out of his apartment in the 00 block of SW 4th Street.

Police responded to a complaint of harassment through electronic communications in the 200 block of SE 7th Avenue. The subject was told to cease communications.

Police responded to a civil property dispute in the 400 block of SE 7th Avenue.

Police responded to a request for a welfare check at a residence on NW 2nd Avenue.

May 8:

Police responded to a request for a civil standby while a subject moved out of the house in the 100 block of NW 2nd Avenue. No issues occurred.

Police met with a subject who wanted to turn in a purse that belonged to a Galva resident at the Galva Police Department.

Nathaniel Finin, 22, Galva, was issued a citation for having expired registration following a traffic stop in the 400 block of NW 3rd Avenue.

Scott Norman, 52, Galva, was issued a citation for having expired registration following a traffic stop in the 400 block of South Center Avenue.

May 9:

Police responded to a wild animal complaint involving an orphaned baby squirrel that had been contained in the 00 block of SW 4th Street. The rehabilitator was contacted, and the squirrel was delivered to them for rehab.

Police responded to a solicitation complaint in the 200 block of SE 6th Street. A male subject was located and informed about the permit process. He was told to cease and was referred to City Hall.

Police responded to a request for assistance from an elderly citizen in the 00 block of NE 5th Avenue.

Police spoke to a subject by telephone about an ongoing neighbor dispute.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up call in the 500 block of NE 3rd Street. It was determined to be a misdial.

Kishor Gopineni, 24, Macomb, was issued a citation for speeding following a traffic stop in the 1000 block of SE 2nd Street.

May 10:

Police assisted the Henry County Sheriff’s Office with a traffic complaint involving an oversized semi-truck that was disabled and blocking both lanes of Route 34 at Midland Road. The officer directed traffic and a towing company was contacted. Eventually, another truck was able to move the trailer and traffic was able to resume.

Police responded to a wild animal complaint involving two orphaned baby squirrels captured in the 00 block of SW 4th Street. The wildlife rehabilitator was contacted and responded to take custody of them.

Police responded to a juvenile complaint after a verbal disagreement with a parent in the 100 block of NE 4th Street.

Police assisted Henry County with a civil paper service in the 00 block of SW 4th Street.

Robin Nevling, 59, Monmouth, was issued a citation for having expired registration following a traffic stop in the 400 block of SE 2nd Street.

Kody Beller, 29, Parkersburg, Iowa, was issued a citation for operating an uninsured vehicle following a traffic stop in the 1100 block of SE 2nd Street.

May 11:

Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in a private driveway in the 300 block of SW 4th Street. A crash report was completed.

Gary Shoen, 51, Galva, was arrested on a Henry County warrant for failing to appear in court for the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop in the 600 block of South Center Avenue. He was transported to the Henry County Jail.

May 12:

Police located a loose dog running near the intersection of SW 6th Street and SW 5th Avenue while patrolling. The dog was taken to impound and later released back to its owner.

Police responded to a request to check the welfare of a subject seen walking along the railroad tracks just west of town. The officer was not able to locate anyone.

Police responded to an animal complaint in the 300 block of SW 3rd Street. The officer determined that the complainant was suffering from a mental health crisis.

Police responded to a theft and burglary complaint in the 00 block of NE 4th Avenue. The incident remains under investigation.
