Galva police report for May 12-18

May 12:

Police responded to a crossing arm malfunction at the NE 6th Avenue tracks. BNSF was contacted for repairs.

Police followed up on a theft complaint in the 300 block of SW 3rd Street.

Drexel Miller, 24, New Windsor, was cited for operating a vehicle when registration was suspended for mandatory insurance, operating an uninsured vehicle and having expired registration following a traffic stop in the 00 block of SW 2nd Street. He was released with a required court date.

Police responded to a two-vehicle accident with damage only in the 1000 block of North Center Avenue. A crash report was completed.

Police recovered a large bag of hypodermic needles that were found in a yard in the 500 block of SE 1st Street. They were taken for disposal.

Police responded to a complaint about a large box that had fallen from a vehicle at the Chester Street railroad crossing. The officer was not able to locate the box.

Police responded to a trash dumping complaint in the 300 block of SW 4th Street. The offender agreed to clean up the mess and was educated on how trash pickup occurs.

A loose dog was reported in the 100 block of North Center Avenue. The dog was impounded and later picked up by its owner.

Linda Yelm, 51, Galva, was issued an administrative warning ticket (AWT) for allowing a dog to run at large after an aggressive loose dog was reported in the 600 block of NW 1st Street.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 hang up in the 200 block of SE 6th Street. It was determined to be a misdial.

Robert Heck, 56, Galva, was arrested for disorderly conduct and harassment through electronic communications following a disorderly conduct complaint in the 00 block of NE 4th Avenue. He was released with a required court date.

May 13:

Police responded to a 9-1-1 open line complaint in the 1200 block of NW 3rd Avenue. It was determined to be a pocket dial.

Police conducted a low-speed vehicle inspection in the 500 block of NW 2nd Street.

Police responded to a verbal domestic disturbance in the 100 block of NE 9th Street.

Police responded to a possible violation of an order of protection in the 100 block of SE 6th Street.

Police assisted a citizen with civil questions in the 100 block of NE 9th Street.

Police responded to a loud music complaint in the 100 block of NE 7th Street.

May 14:

Brett Harlan, 41, Galva, was arrested on two Knox County warrants for failing to appear on charges of possession of methamphetamine, DUI-drugs, failing to reduce speed to avoid accident, no insurance and no seat belt following a request to remove an unwanted subject in the 600 block of NW 7th Avenue. He was taken to Henry County Jail.

Police responded to a report of a utility wire in the roadway in the 300 block of NW 1st Ave for a utility wire that was down in the roadway. Frontier Communications was contacted for repairs.

Officers responded to a 9-1-1 open line in the 700 block of West Division Street. It was a misdial.

May 15:

Police responded to a request to remove an unwanted subject in the 00 block of NW 2nd Street. The offender was served with a written banning notice.

Police met with a registered sex offender who wanted to update their registration as they are moving out-of-state.

Police responded to a disabled vehicle complaint in the 100 block of SW 9th Avenue. The vehicle was able to drive away.

Police conducted a low-speed vehicle inspection in the 200 block of SW 3rd Avenue.

Police responded to a report of an open door in the 800 block of East Division Street.

Police responded to a safety concern in the 1000 block of SE 2nd Street.

May 16:

Justin Bicknell, 36, Moline, was arrested on a Henry County warrant for assault following an investigation of an incident last week. He was transported to Henry County Jail.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 open line in the 1100 block of SE 2nd Street. The officer determined it was a pocket dial.

Police responded to a gas drive-off complaint in the 00 block of SW 2nd Street.

Police responded to a property line dispute in the 00 block of SE 6th Street.

Police responded to a fire in the 100 block of SE 6th Avenue. It was a small fire that was quickly extinguished.

Police conducted a civil standby in the 00 block of NE 4th Avenue.

Police responded to disorderly conduct in the 00 block of NE 8th Street.

Samuel Abdelkoui, 64, Galva, was arrested for driving while license was suspended, operating an uninsured vehicle, and having an expired driver’s license following a traffic stop in the 100 block of SE 1st Street. He was released with a required court date.

Patrick Hammons, 69, Galva, was issued citations for improper use of registration and operating an uninsured vehicle following a traffic stop in the 300 block of Commercial Street, after several traffic complaints involving a reckless driver in various areas in Galva.

May 17:

Police responded to a verbal domestic disturbance in the 500 block of East Division Street.

Police responded to a report of a downed utility wire at the intersection of SE 8th Ave and SE 1st Street.

Police responded to a complaint about pieces of wood with nails in them in the roadway in the 300 block of NE 1st Street.

Police responded to a report of a lost or stolen wallet in the 00 block of NW 4th Street. The complainant later found the wallet inside the house.

Police responded to a complaint of criminal damage to property in the 600 block of NW 5th Street.

Police were called to remove furniture from the roadway on Route 34 west of town.

May 18:

Arturo Montenegro, 59, Galesburg, was cited for operating a vehicle when registration was suspended for mandatory insurance following a traffic stop in the 500 block of West Division Street. He was released with a required court date.

Police conducted a civil standby to retrieve property in the 100 block of Front Street.

Police responded to an activated burglar alarm in the 00 block of SW 2nd Street. It was determined to be a false alarm.
