Galva police report for July 15-21

July 15:

Police responded to an iPhone-detected accident at the intersection of 200 North and 2250 East Streets. Upon the officer’s arrival, Henry County dispatch made contact with the owner of the phone. It was a false alarm.

Police were notified of a vehicle repossession occurring in the 00 block of NW 8th Avenue. The vehicle was removed without incident.

Police were notified about a vehicle repossession occurring in the 00 block of SW 5th Street. The vehicle was removed without incident.

Police responded to a complaint of an unruly juvenile in the 400 block of East Division Street.

Police responded to a report of a tree down due to a powerful windstorm in the 800 block of North Center Avenue.

Police responded to reports of downed trees and power lines in the roadway in the 800 block of West Division Street.

Police responded to reports of downed trees and power lines in the roadway in the 300 block of SE 2nd Street.

Police responded to reports of downed power lines in the roadway in the 800 block of NW 5th Avenue.

Police responded to reports of downed power lines in the 400 block of NW 3rd Avenue.

Police, along with the fire department, responded to a report of the odor of natural gas in the 400 block of SW 3rd Avenue. Personnel were not able to locate the source.

Police responded to a report of a large tree that had fallen near a house in the 500 block of SE 4th Street.

Police conducted a welfare check at a residence on NW 5th Avenue. Contact was not made.

Police responded to a report of a downed tree limb and power lines in the 800 block of NW 1st Avenue.

Police and the fire department responded to a report of power wires on fire and tree limbs in a yard in the 800 block of NW 3rd Avenue.

Police responded to downed power lines in the roadway in the 1000 block of West Division Street. The road was barricaded, and Ameren was contacted.

Police responded to downed power wires and tree limbs lying across a parked vehicle in the 400 block of SE 4th Street.

July 16:

Police assisted Knox County with a single-vehicle accident with injuries about three miles south of Galva on Route 17. A box truck drove through a T-intersection and struck an embankment. Knox County arrived and handled the crash report.

Police responded to reports of a power pole that had snapped and was “dangling” in the 800 block of SW 4th Street. Ameren was contacted for repairs.

While patrolling, police noticed power wires across the roadway in the 00 block of NE 5th Avenue. Barricades were set up to warn other motorists.

Police responded to a report of three loose dogs in the 100 block of NE 6th Street. The owner was contacted and arrived to put the dogs back inside.

Police responded to reports of downed power wires in the 100 block of NE 4th Street. Caution tape was placed around the yard and Ameren was contacted.

Police conducted a welfare check at a residence on NE 5th Street. The subject was fine.

Police responded to a report of downed power wires in a yard in the 00 block of SW 8th Avenue. The wires were identified as telephone lines. Frontier was contacted for repairs.

Jennifer Klinebough, 41, Monmouth, was cited for operating a vehicle when registration was suspended for mandatory insurance and operating an uninsured vehicle following a traffic stop in the 700 block of West Division Street. She was released with a required court date.

Police responded to a verbal domestic disturbance in the 100 block of NE 7th Street.
While on an unrelated complaint, police heard someone yelling “help” in the area. He was not able to locate anyone.

Maria Vazquez, 43, Monmouth, was issued a citation for speeding in the 500 block of SE 2nd Street.

July 17:

Police, along with the fire department, responded to a report of a downed power line shooting flames in the 800 block of NW 1st Avenue. Ameren responded and was able to shut off the power to the wire.

While patrolling, police saw a solicitor going door-to-door in the 100 block of SE 6th Street. The subject did not have a permit and was referred to city hall to obtain one.

Police conducted a low-speed vehicle inspection in the 400 block of SW 5th Avenue.

Police responded to a complaint of reckless driving at the east edge of town that occurred south of Kewanee. The officer stopped the suspect vehicle for an equipment violation and informed him of the driving complaint.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 100 block of Main Street. The owner was contacted and retrieved the animal.

Police responded to a downed power wire at the intersection of NE 1st Street and NE 2nd Avenue. It was determined to be a phone line.

Police responded to a complaint of reckless driving in the 500 block of SE 1st Avenue. The officer stopped a suspect vehicle, and the driver denied disobeying stop signs. No action was taken.

Michael McCann, 30, Altona, was issued a citation for having expired registration in the 00 block of SE 5th Street.

Cyrus Lilly, 18, Galva, was issued a citation for speeding in the 1100 block of SE 2nd Street.

July 18:

Police responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle in the 500 block of SE 2nd Street. The owner arranged to have it removed later in the day.

Police responded to a missing person-adult complaint in the 500 block of SE 3rd Street. The subject had left after a verbal argument and hadn’t been heard from since then. The subject returned home a few minutes later.

Ronald Bender, 47, Kewanee, was arrested for not having a valid driver’s license, driving while license revoked, and operating an uninsured vehicle as the result of a traffic stop in the 100 block of NW 3rd Street. He was transported to the police department for processing and then released with a required court date.

Police, along with the fire department, responded to a report of a possible electrical fire in the 600 block of SE 8th Avenue.

Police drove around town and marked down several ordinance violations. Sixteen warning letters were sent via mail.

July 19:

Police responded to an illegal burning complaint in the 700 block of NE 1st Avenue. The fire was extinguished.

Police responded to a disorderly conduct complaint involving a subject yelling profanities in the 900 block of West Division Street.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 00 block of NE 6th Street.

Police responded to a verbal domestic disturbance between brothers in the 00 block of NE 4th Avenue.

Police responded to a request to watch for a reckless driver at the west edge of town who was coming from the Knox County line. The officer was not able to locate the suspect vehicle.

Andrew Williams, 47, Galva, was issued a citation for having expired registration in the 900 block of SE 2nd Street.

July 20:

Police responded to an open 9-1-1 complaint in the 400 block of SW 5th Avenue. It was determined to be a pocket dial.

Police responded to a two-vehicle accident with damage-only on private property in the 500 block of SE 2nd Street.

Police responded to a disorderly conduct complaint involving a subject screaming obscenities in the 300 block of SW 3rd Street. The subject was believed to be having a mental health crisis.

July 21:

Police responded to a Henry County deputy’s report of two motorcycles driving southbound over 100 mph from Route 78 south of Kewanee. The officer was not able to locate them.

Police responded to a disorderly conduct complaint involving someone yelling profanities during the night in the 900 block of West Division Street.

Tianna Watts, 27, Kewanee, was issued a citation for having expired registration in the 500 block of West Division Street.

Christopher Edmunds, 39, Coal Valley, was issued citations for having expired registration and operating an uninsured vehicle in the 300 block of SE 2nd Street.
