Galva police report for Aug. 12-18

August 12:

Police met with a resident to renew their annual sex offender registration at the Galva Police Department. A completed form was emailed to Henry Co for the LEADS entry.

Police responded to a complaint involving harassing text messages in the 400 block of NW 1st Street.

Police responded to a report of an abandoned dog in the 00 block of SW 4th Street.

Police met with a group of people who were applying for a solicitor’s permit at the police department. The officer completed a background check and a permit was issued through City Hall.

Police responded to a report that a group of young children had dumped a garbage can in the restroom at Wiley Park. A parent arrived and was confrontational. The officer ultimately cleaned up the mess left behind.

Police responded to a parking complaint in the 700 block of SE 6th Street. The registered owner was found to be one of the solicitors who had been issued a permit earlier in the day.

Police, along with the fire department, responded to a vehicle fire several miles south of town.

Police responded to a solicitor complaint in the 400 block of Swank Street. The subjects did have a valid permit.

August 13:

Police responded to a 9-1-1 open line complaint in the 300 block of SE 3rd Street. It was determined to be an accidental dial.

Police assisted the Kewanee Police with message delivery in the 00 block of SW 8th Avenue. The subject was located, and the message was delivered.

Police met with a subject at the Galva Police Department to assist them with options for payment on a speeding ticket they had received.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up complaint in the 300 block of SW 3rd Street. The subject was suffering from a mental health crisis.

Police were advised that a vehicle had been stolen from Kewanee and was possibly on the way to Galesburg. Kewanee Police found the vehicle within their city limits.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up complaint in the 00 block of SW 8th Avenue. The officer did not locate anyone needing assistance.

August 14:

Police responded to an abandoned dog complaint in the 00 block of SW 4th Street. The animal was removed and impounded. A written notice of impoundment was posted on the door.

Police responded to an ambulance request in the 300 block of SW 3rd Street. The subject was suffering from a mental health crisis.

Police responded to a crossing arm malfunction at the Exchange Street and SW 6th Avenue railroad tracks. This was related to the repairs being done on Chester Street. BNSF was contacted for repairs.

Police responded to an unknown issue in the 00 block of SW 2nd Street. It was determined to be a medical issue. Stark County Medic was dispatched to handle this.

Evon Zefo, 58, Galesburg, was issued a citation for speeding in the 1100 block of SE 2nd Street.
Brian Hoffman, 39, Galva, was issued a citation for having expired registration in the 00 block of SE 6th Avenue.

August 15:

Police spoke to a caseworker with Alternatives for the Older Adult. Several reports were emailed to them as part of an open investigation they have.

Police responded to a possible violation of an order of protection in the 600 block of NW 1st Street.

Damien Foster, 31, Aledo, was issued a citation for having expired registration in the 00 block of SW 9th Avenue.

August 16:

Police completed a low-speed vehicle inspection in the 1200 block of SE 2nd Street.

Police responded to an anonymous complaint involving a city ordinance violation in the 1100 block of SE 2nd Street. The complaint was unfounded.

Police were flagged down and given a wallet that had been found. The officer was able to locate the owner and return it.

Police assisted Henry County with traffic control for the fatal car accident north of town.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up complaint in the 00 block of SW 8th Avenue. The officer spoke to a group of juveniles, who denied making any calls.

Police responded to a trespassing complaint in the 500 block of West Division Street.

Police responded to an ambulance request in the 300 block of SW 3rd Street. The subject was suffering from a mental health crisis.

Police responded to a shoplifting complaint in the 100 block of Market Street. A Galva juvenile was located, and the items were returned. No charges were filed.

Police responded to a suspicious noise complaint in the 700 block of NW 1st Avenue. The officer checked the residence and did not locate anyone or anything unusual.

August 17:

Police responded to a trespassing/trash dumping complaint in the 200 block of SW 4th Street

Police responded to a disorderly conduct complaint involving a subject screaming obscenities in the 300 block of SW 3rd Street. The subject agreed to go inside the house and to be quiet.

August 18:

Police responded to a disturbance involving a firearm being displayed in the 900 block of SE 2nd Street. The “firearm” was found to be a small, plastic, green-colored toy gun.

Police responded to a possible violation of an order of protection in the 600 block of NW 1st Street.

Police responded to a traffic complaint involving a lawn mower with no tail lights in the 200 block of North Center Avenue. The officer was not able to locate it.
