Galva police report for April 14-20

April 14:

Police watched for a reckless driver after a traffic complaint. The officer located the vehicle but was not able to establish probable cause for a traffic stop.

William Barnes, 40, Galva, was arrested for driving while his license was suspended following a traffic stop in the 200 block of North Center Avenue. He was taken to the Galva Police Department for processing and later released with a required court date.

Police assisted the Woodhull Police Department in attempting to locate a Galva resident who owned property in Woodhull.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of SW 5th Street.

April 15:

Police assisted a motorist who had locked their keys inside a vehicle in the 500 block of NE 5th Street. They were referred to Tarleton’s Service for assistance.

Police conducted a low-speed vehicle inspection in the 100 block of NW 2nd Avenue. The permit was denied due to the subject not having a valid driver’s license, which is a requirement.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up call in the 1100 block of SE 2nd Street. It was determined to be a misdial.

Police met with a sex offender at the Galva Police Department to register a new Galva address. A completed copy was sent to Henry County for LEADS entry.

Police responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint in the 00 block of SE 4th Street. It was determined to be a family member.

April 16:

Billy Hammond, 39, Galva, was arrested for aggravated fleeing and eluding, speeding more than 35mph over the speed limit and three separate stop sign violations following an interview at the Fulton County Jail concerning a vehicle pursuit. He also has pending charges in Fulton and McDonough Counties. He was given copies of his citations and told of his required court date.

Police followed up on ordinance letters sent to houses a few weeks ago. Several of the residents are making progress in their clean-up efforts.

Police responded to a verbal disturbance in the 00 block of SW 4th Street. The offender appeared to be suffering a mental health crisis.

Police responded to a complaint concerning a solicitor in the 100 block of NE 6th Avenue. The subject did not have a permit and was asked to cease his activities.

April 17:

Police were notified about a vehicle repossession that was taking place in the 100 block of SE 8th Avenue.

Police responded to a neighborhood dispute in the 300 block of NW 1st Street.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 00 block of NE 4th Street.

April 18:

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 1000 block of SE 2nd Street. The animal was returned to its owner.

Police recovered an abandoned bicycle in the 200 block of SE 5th Avenue. It was taken to impound.

Police responded to a complaint concerning a solicitor in the 300 block of NE 8th Avenue. The subject was located and did not have a valid permit.

Police responded to an ongoing scam complaint in the 00 block of NW 4th Street.

Police checked on the welfare of children sitting in a vehicle in the 00 block of SW 2nd Street. A parent returned soon after and was educated about leaving children in a vehicle.

Police responded to a complaint involving teenagers riding scooters on the roadway in the 700 block of North Center Avenue. They were located and warned to stay off the roadway.

Police assisted the Knoxville Police Department locate a stolen vehicle and vehicle parts in the Galva area. All of the stolen items were located. Charges are pending through Knox County.

Police assisted the Kewanee Police Department in attempting to locate a suicidal subject. The subject was located in Kewanee, unresponsive but breathing.

April 19:

Police responded to a verbal domestic disturbance in the 00 block of SW 9th Avenue.

Police responded to a verbal domestic disturbance in the 500 block of NE 3rd Street.

Lucas Gustafson, 39, Galva, was arrested on a Henry County warrant for failure to appear on charges of resisting a police officer and domestic battery after police recognized a wanted subject in the 400 block of SE 1st Street. This was a no-bond warrant. He was taken to Henry County Jail.

Police responded to a sewer backup complaint at the women’s restroom at Wiley Park. The officer contacted a water department employee. The complaint was unfounded.

Christi Knapp, 45, Onaska, Wis., was cited for operating a vehicle when registration was suspended for mandatory insurance and operating an uninsured vehicle following a traffic stop in the 900 block of SE 2nd Street. She was released with a required court date.

April 20:

Police responded to a complaint of harassment through social media in the 300 block of SE 3rd Street.

Police responded to a report of a loose cat in the 300 block of SW 4th Avenue. The officer checked the area but was not able to locate the cat.

Police responded to a verbal domestic disturbance between two siblings in the 100 block of NE 6th Avenue.

Police responded to many complaints of storm-related damage and debris from a strong thunderstorm that passed through Galva.
