Galva High School spring play, Radium Girls, set for this weekend

By The Kewanee Voice    March 7, 2024

The play Radium Girls is coming to Galva High School. The spring play is set for this weekend, March 8 and 9. The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $8 at the door.

In 1926, radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court.

There is a Radium Girl statue in Ottawa, Ill, honoring those workers from the Radium Dial Company.
