Kewanee firefighters fought both a fire and the weather at a home on Parkview Drive Monday morning.
Fire Department Capt. Bennett Riber said no one was home at 222 Parkview Drive when the fire started. A passerby reported the fire to the fire department at 9:26 a.m.
Flames were coming out of two windows in the house when the fire department arrived, Riber said. The firefighters had knocked the fire down by 10 a.m. and remained on scene to take care of hot spots.
Riber said fighting the fire in subzero temperatures was a challenge. Warming stations were set up for the firefighters while the fire was being fought.
The Stark County Ambulance Service was called in to provide backup ambulance coverage during the fire, Riber said. He added that no ambulance calls came in for Stark County to handle.
No firefighters were injured, and Riber said the cause of the fire was under investigation Monday afternoon.
