If you want to run for Kewanee’s City Council, you only have a few days left to file as a candidate,
The period for filing candidate petitions at City Hall opened Monday. Incumbents Tyrone Baker and Steve Faber filed Monday for re-election.

To run in next spring’s election, candidates must file their petitions by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28.
City Clerk Kasey Mitchell said if more than eight candidates file for the two seats, there will be a primary election on Feb. 25 to narrow the field to eight.

If eight or fewer candidates file, the councilman election will be on April 1.
Mitchell said candidate packets are available at City Hall for anyone who wants to run for council. The packets contain all the papers candidates will need.
She said that to qualify as a candidate, a citizen of Kewanee will need at least 10 petition signatures. Mitchell said that number is based on the turnout in the latest municipal election; the turnout was very light that time.
The four-year council terms will run until 2029.
