A Kewanee man was jailed on numerous charges Sunday night following a traffic pursuit involving Henry County Sheriff’s deputies and the Kewanee police.

James E. Crockett, 51, was taken to the Henry County Jail after the pursuit, which started at 9:21 p.m. when a deputy initiated a traffic stop on Crockett’s vehicle at Second Street and Burr Boulevard in Kewanee.

The vehicle reportedly did not stop, but led police and sheriff personnel on a chase that eventually left the city.

Deputy Police Chief Michael Minx said that while the pursuit was in the city, the driver didn’t run stop signs or commit other traffic offenses. Once the vehicle went beyond the city limits, Minx said, Kewanee police officers dropped out of the pursuit.

Crockett faces four charges of driving under the influence, including a count of DUI while his license is revoked.

Other citations were for disobeying a traffic control device, improper lane usage, defective exhaust, expired registration, driving while license revoked, aggravated fleeing a peace officer, disobeying a stop sign, reckless driving and speeding 35 mph over the limit.

Further information was unavailable from the sheriff’s department Monday morning. This article will be updated at more information becomes available.
