The Henry County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) announced Thursday that the Disaster Recovery Center, located at 4424 US Hwy 34 in Kewanee, will transition to a Disaster Support Facility beginning on Monday, Oct. 28.
The refreshed support facility will reopen and be available to walk-in survivors Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. FEMA, in partnership with the State of Illinois and Henry County, will continue to reach as many residents as possible and get them the help they need, according to a news release from OEM.
“Although operating at a reduced capacity, FEMA will continue to maintain a limited presence at the Disaster Support Facility and will continue to help residents apply for assistance, update application information and ensure they have access to speak with a FEMA specialist in-person,” the statement reads.
Many types of assistance are available and tailored to survivors’ unique situations.
“Your recovery may differ from that of friends or neighbors, but FEMA is committed to ensuring applicants receive the assistance they’re eligible for. Once you apply, it’s crucial to update your application if there are any changes to addresses or contacts and to submit any documentation or additional information that FEMA requests,” the release stated.
Homeowners and renters with damage or loss caused by the July 13-16 severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding have until the Nov. 19 deadline to apply for FEMA assistance.
The fastest and best way to apply is online at DisasterAssistance.gov; alternatively, residents can also download the FEMA mobile app or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.
