Deadline nears to register to vote Nov. 5

By Michael Berry    October 4, 2024

If you want to vote in the Nov. 5 presidential election but you haven’t registered to vote, you’re running out of time.

Tuesday, Oct. 8, is the last day to register to vote in the presidential election.

If you’re registered but have moved since the last time you voted, you have to change your address with the county clerk. The deadline for that is also Tuesday.

Voter registration and changes of address must be done at the county clerk’s office in the Henry County Courthouse in Cambridge.

Eligible voters may also register to vote online at the State Board of Elections website (ova.elections.il.gov).

Other details about the upcoming election:

— If you don’t want to go to your polling place on Election Day, Illinois law allows you to vote in person early.

In Henry County, the courthouse is the only early-voting site. Votes can be cast in the county clerk’s office during business hours.

The courthouse will also be open for early voting from 8 a.m. to noon on three Saturdays — Oct. 19 and 26 and Nov. 2.

— Oct 31 is the last day for the county clerk’s office to receive an application to vote by mail, and to mail a ballot to a voter.

— Nov. 4, the day before Election Day, is the last day to vote in person at the courthouse.
