Galva’s first “Cruise-In” of the year is set for Friday, May 10 and everyone is invited. The event is open to owners of trucks, cars and motorcycles and will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Kewish Concrete, located at 103 North Center Ave in Galva.
Hamburgers, hot dogs and chips will be provided free of charge while supplies last and donations are welcome.
Entry into the Cruise-In is free and open to car lovers of all ages, said John Wirth, president of the Street Cruisers Car Club. This is the first time Galva has been chosen as a venue, with Kewish Concrete, Galva Iron and Metal and Save-A-Lot as sponsors.
Future Galva cruises are scheduled for Friday, July 12 and Friday, Sept. 13, each starting at the Kewish Concrete site, with event planners hoping for a good turnout at each one.

While weather and other outside activities can affect participation, Wirth hopes to have upwards of 40 vehicles in the Galva cruises.
In addition to the Galva Cruise, a county-wide cruise is planned for Sunday, July 14. Beginning in Cambridge, it will include unique vehicles from many surrounding communities, with entries expected to be in the hundreds.
“It’s a great cruise,” said Wirth. “A perfect day for people who love their cars.”
Wirth began the Car Club during Covid as a way to provide an opportunity for a safe, enjoyable pastime and spearheaded many of the events.
“It is so great to see all the participants having a cruise night out,” said Wirth. “In earlier years, riding around town was a great pastime. Now, with kids hooked to computers and cell phones, the Cruise-In is a great way to bring back some old-fashioned fun.”
