Hundreds of residents turned out for Thursday’s community swims. Two groups, the Kewanee Education Association and the Rotary Club of Kewanee sponsored the back-to-back events.

The KEA held its free swim in the morning from 10 am to noon. The event drew a crowd of Kewanee district students and their family members numbering around 130, said Ann Hamilton, a staff member at the Oasis Family Aquatic Center at Northeast Park.
In the afternoon, the entire community was invited out for a swim in an event hosted by the Rotary Club. Numbers for that session were around 125-150.

The Rotary Club free swim had been scheduled for last weekend, but was postponed. The final day of the season for the Oasis will be on Sunday, Aug. 6. The community can swim from noon to 3 pm. The “Doggy Swim,” held every year at the end of the season, will be from 3 to 6 pm.
