City to resume brush pickup

By The Kewanee Voice    September 13, 2024

The city of Kewanee is resuming paid brush pickup.

A post on the city’s Facebook page Thursday announced that the pickup service — interrupted by the July 15 tornadoes that went through the city — will start again.

“If you have a pile of brush that you would like picked up, you may purchase stickers at City Hall and get placed on the schedule,” the Facebook post said.

The cost of the service depends on the size of the brush pile, the post said.

“If you are unable to calculate the cost, call City Hall and we’ll have an employee come out and determine what the appropriate cost would be,” the post said.

The city is still working with the Henry County Office of Emergency Management to secure assistance from the state of Illinois to aid in clean up from the tornadoes.

“This assistance is critical for the city to be able to clean up the debris from the storm,” the post said. “We cannot guarantee a timeline on this or even if it will happen. Until we have received a response, the best way to have storm debris removed is to either pay at City Hall or have the brush taken to Pleasant View Cemetery off of Fisher Avenue.”
