A disturbance reported at Fairview Homes resulted in the arrest of a Bloomington man on multiple charges including unlawful possession of a weapon, according to a news release from the Kewanee Police Department.
Jeffery M. Hollingsworth, 23, was taken into custody by Kewanee police on Wednesday, April 9, and charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a Class 3 felony and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, Class 4 felony
According to the release, at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, officers were called to Fairview Homes for a reported disturbance. Police say that upon arrival, officers learned that the suspects had already fled the scene in a vehicle.
After an initial investigation, officers concluded that a physical altercation had occurred and that an occupant of a vehicle had produced a handgun and pointed it at multiple individuals.
Later, police say that officers were called back to the same area regarding a continuation of the incident. This time, however, police were able to locate the suspects who had previously left the scene.
“During the course of an investigation, officers conducted multiple interviews and obtained both cell phone and surveillance footage related to the incident. As a result of their investigation, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun from the suspect vehicle. An additional loaded 9mm magazine was located during a search of one of the suspects,” the release read.
Based on that evidence, Hollingworth was taken into custody.
A preliminary hearing is set for Monday, April 14 at the Henry County Courthouse.
Hollingsworth is charged with a Class 3 felony and if convicted faces a potential sentence of two to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Hollingsworth is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, according to the news release.
