Major improvements have come to Kewanee’s parks in the last couple of years, and on Thursday, the Kewanee Park Board learned about more plans to come.

At the board meeting, Parks Director Andrew Dwyer presented the park district’s strategic plan for the future.

The plan includes:

— Completing improvements at Liberty Park. New playground equipment has already been installed there, and the park district has received a grant to build a splash pad and other upgrades.

— Rehabbing the Windmont Park tennis courts.

— A dog park, possibly at Chautauqua Park.

— Redoing the rear playground at Windmont.

— Repairs to the maintenance shed by Baker Park.

— Upgrades to the Windmont Park shelterhouses.

— Restoration of the scoreboard under the gazebo at Baker Park.

Dwyer said a number of long-range goals have been met since he first worked on a strategic plan in 2022. These include the solar canopy being built at Baker Park and new playground equipment at Chautauqua Park.

Also Thursday:

— Tim and Robin O’Connor, who live at the north end of Lexington Avenue next to Baker Park, asked for permission to reinstall a swing for their grandchildren.

The swing was hung in a tree that’s actually on park property, and the park district’s insurance company directed the O’Connors to remove it. They asked for a waiver from the insurance company allowing them to put the swing back up.

Dwyer said he would contact the insurance company about the waiver.

— The board approved creating a five-round pass for golf at Baker Park. The pass would cost $150 and would include five 18-hole rounds of golf, with cart.

Dwyer said that would be a savings of $7 per round.

— The board approved ordering two sofas and five tables, with six chairs each, for the solar canopy.
