Ed Welgat had waited a long time for his first hole-in-one, and on Saturday the wait ended.
Welgat, playing in a foursome with his three sons, aced the second hole at Baker Park.
He is 80, and his been playing golf “his whole life,” his son Stephen Welgat said.
Stephen and his brothers Eric and Nicholas Welgat were in the foursome and witnessed the ace, although at first they didn’t know where the ball ended up after their dad hit it.
Eric and Nicholas drove their cart up to the green, and Eric found Ed’s ball in the hole.
The golf outing was part of a Welgat family gathering that had been planned for Father’s Day. But schedule conflicts caused the event to be postponed a couple of weeks.
Stephen said seven of the nine Welgat children attended. One daughter, Rachel, lives in Florida, while daughter Lisa was visiting her son in California.
