What does a busy group of women do in addition to jobs, family and social obligations? If you ask Jami Rieker of rural Kewanee, she will say “we organize a great evening to fund a deserving agency.”
Rieker and a group of area women are hosting the second, ladies-only “Cocktails for a Cause” on Nov. 18 at Midland Country Club. This year’s proceeds will go to Freedom House, the domestic violence and sexual assault prevention agency that serves five area counties. The evening begins at 6:30 pm, with music, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. A variety of raffle items will be on display and a silent auction is included.

Rieker heads up the group whose members include Nicole Steele, Kristen Granell, Raeanne Braasch, Kaleigh Good, Lexi Strandberg and Kayla Whitmer- all women with business experience and busy family lives. The committee represents a number of communities, including Geneseo, Kewanee, Orion, Neponset, Princeton, Lacon and surrounding towns.
A busy wife to her farmer husband Ryan, and mom of five, Rieker owns and operates Little Moo Boutique just outside of Kewanee. The group of women don’t have an official name, Rieker said.
“We just want to give back to the community and help those in need.”
Tickets are $30 in advance, or $40 at the door. Tables of eight can be purchased as well, and tickets can be bought through the “Cocktails for a Cause” Facebook page.
