A Kewanee man went to jail after a single-vehicle accident Saturday night on the east side of Kewanee.
Jeffrey L. Weir, 66, was taken to the Henry County Jail on a number of traffic charges.
Police reported that just after 9 p.m. Saturday officers were dispatched to a vehicle accident in an alley between the 1100 blocks of Florence and May streets.
Officers observed a black SUV located west of the creek with heavy damage and full airbag deployment, according to a news release issued by the department Tuesday.
“Officers made contact with the driver, who was still seated in the vehicle, and immediately rendered aid,” the news release said.
Officers determined that Weir had been ar a graduation party in the 1100 block of June Street prior to the incident.
“Witnesses reported that Weir left the gathering operating his vehicle in an aggressive and erratic manner,” the news release said.
Witnesses told police that Weir “lost control of the vehicle while driving away, striking a garage, and continued traveling around the block,” police reported. “He then re-entered residential backyards from June Street before ultimately crashing the vehicle into the creek.”
Weir was transported to OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee for treatment. After being medically cleared, he was taken to the Henry County Jail.
Weir has been charged with:
• Driving under the Influence of alcohol;
• Driving under the influence of drugs
• Driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs
• Aggravated assault with a motor vehicle
• Driving while license revoked
• Reckless driving
This incident remains under investigation, police said.
