Kewanee has always had a large selection of parks for people,
and starting early next month, the city will have a park just for dogs.
A new dog park in Chautauqua Park (along Junior Avenue) will open Thursday, July 3 following a ceremony at 10 a.m., Executive Director of the Kewanee Park District Andrew Dwyer, announced.
The dog park was built with money from a donor. Until now, the donor’s identity has not been announced; that will be done during the opening ceremony, Dwyer said.

The fenced-in dog park has two dog “playgrounds,” one for small dogs and the other for larger ones.
Each half of the dog park is equipped with a fire hydrant. Dwyer said the hydrants were replaced with newer ones by the city, which donated them to the dog park project.

There are also seating for humans, water fountains for humans and dogs and a bottle-filler fixture that will be accessible from outside the dog park fence.
Dwyer said that will be a benefit for disc golfers and other people without dogs who use the park.
