Adult Book Club – Monday, March 18 at 2 and 6 p.m.

The next meeting date of our Adult Book Club is March 18 where we will be discussing The Woman They Could Not Silence by Kate Moore. As always, we will hold two meetings, one at 2 p.m. and another at 6 p.m.; you’re invited to attend whichever time works the best for you.  

We ask that anyone attending the evening time please enter the building through the elevator entrance located on the north side of the building on First Street. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the Information Services desk on the lower level. We hope to see you there!

Tech Hours with Doug

Have a question about one of your devices?  Stop in March 21 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. to speak with our resident technology guru Doug. He will help you troubleshoot your issue or demonstrate how you might get it to work the way you want it to. If possible, make sure to bring your device with you to ensure the solution we have is the best solution for you.

Science Book Club is Back

We’re excited to announce that the Science Book Club is back. The first meeting will be March 27 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room. Alan Abbott will be here to lead the discussion on The Big Ones: How Natural Disasters Have Shaped Us (and What We Can Do About Them) by Dr. Lucy Jones. 

Isaac Stewart, of Black Hawk College, will be here to facilitate the discussion of An Immense World by Ed Yong at our April 24t meeting.  Books for that discussion will be available to pick-up Monday, March 25. 

Thanks to our amazing Friends of the Library group, who are sponsoring this book club, participants will receive their own copy of each book discussed, which means seats are limited for this book club. 

Books for the first discussion are available to pick up now. If you registered and have not collected your copy, stop in at the Information Services desk on the lower level.

Native Plants and Pocket Prairies – March 14 at 1:30 p.m.

Looking for a way to help the local pollinators?  Curious about what type of plants are native to the area?  U of I Extension Master Gardener Cindy Lenger will be here March 14 at 1:30 p.m. to present “Native Plants and Pocket Prairies.”

Henry County Genealogical Society

As part of their monthly meetings, the Henry County Genealogical Society welcomes a variety of interesting presenters.  The meetings are the fourth Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in the Library’s Community Room.  The next meeting is March 25th.  Dick Wells will be here to talk about Valley Forge.

Creativity at the Carnegie

Do you enjoy knitting, crochet, embroidery, cross stitch or quilting? Come and join us at the Kewanee Public Library in the Community Room on the second Tuesday of each month from 4-6 p.m..  

This is an adult group sponsored by the Friends of the Kewanee Public Library for those who would like to enjoy the comradery of others while creating their own fiber projects.

Youth Programming

Babies to Pre-K aged children are invited to join our spectacular youth staff for songs, action rhymes, stories and games. Join us every Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. through April 16. Reading to children helps develop their brain, enhances their ability to focus, and improves social and communication skills.  

Stick around after Storytime for Stay and Play with our sensory building toys.

Our Storybook STEAM to Go kits have continued to be ever popular. This month you can stop in to grab a kit and read If I Built a Car by Chris Van Dusen then design your very own car out of a cardboard box. And don’t forget to send us pictures of your creation to kewaneelibrarycr@gmail.com to be featured on the library Facebook page.

We’ve already hosted our in-house craft for our elementary age patrons, but the PreK crowd and their caregivers are invited to come in March 20, 21 and 22 from 2-6 p.m. or March 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.. We’ll be making pom pom caterpillars.  

Don’t forget about our grab n’ go crafts. The March craft is a Q-Tip Dart Game. They’re available now, so stop in to grab yours today!
