The Wethersfield High School varsity Scholastic Bowl team competed in its final match of the season at the regional tournament in Galva.

Wethersfield faced Mercer County in the opening round. The team started strong in the first half, with team members Joey Drawyer and Tyler Graham answering several toss-up and bonus questions.

Graham answered five of his six buzz-ins correctly, while Drawyer answered all three of his buzz-ins correctly. Both players also contributed to several bonus questions throughout the match.

Additional contributions came from team members Makenna Witte and BreAnna Peed, who each buzzed in for toss-up and bonus questions during the game.

At halftime, Mercer County led 190–120. The match ended with Mercer County winning 430–210, eliminating Wethersfield from the regional tournament.

The match marked the end of the season and the conclusion of several varsity careers. Scholastic Bowl Coach Steven Stoner is retiring and will be inducted into the Wethersfield Scholastic Bowl Hall of Fame.

Several team members also finished notable varsity careers. Graham ended the season with 50 total toss-ups. Peed finished her varsity career with 12 toss-ups, Drawyer finished with 47 toss-ups and Witte finished with 23 toss-ups.

Graham and Drawyer were also awarded the Demon Goose Award, which is given to players who score 25 or more toss-ups in a single semester. Both will receive a recognition patch for the achievement.

Honorable mentions go to varsity member Parker Miskinus, who finished his varsity career with five toss-ups, and Daniel Hasse, who concluded the season with three toss-ups.

The match concluded at 5 p.m. with Wethersfield eliminated from regionals, but the team ended the season with their heads held high.
